In recognition of the serious problem posed to seabirds by fisheries interactions, the Seabird Bycatch Working Group (SBWG) was established to advise the Agreement on actions that will assist in assessment, mitigation and reduction of negative interactions between fishing operations and albatrosses and petrels. The working group comprises representatives from ACAP's 13 Parties, together with invited experts with relevant technical or other expertise.

The ACAP Advisory Committee merged the Status and Trends, and Breeding Sites working groups into a single working group, the Population and Conservation Status Working Group (PaCSWG), at its Sixth Meeting in August 2011 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

A joint SBWG12/PaCSWG8 meeting was held on Thursday, 8 August 2024,in Lima, Peru, to discuss cross-cutting issues.

A joint SBWG11/PaCSWG7 meeting was held on 18 May 2023, in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, to discuss cross-cutting issues.

The sixth meeting of the Status and Trends Working Group (STWG 6) was held jointly with the fourth meeting of Breeding Sites Working Group (BSWG 4) from 25th - 26th August 2011 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
